Are you ready for Regulatory Examinations?

The FAIS Act and its subordinate legislation prescribe a number of requirements that individuals who provide financial advice/services on behalf of a financial services provider must meet.

One of these requirements is that all financial services providers, representatives and key individuals have to pass the industry’s Regulatory Examinations before certain deadlines.

Lets Study  Training Services offers you all the tools you need to succeed in the Regulatory Examinations.

Work through the course material

The FSB advises candidates to spend at least three months preparing for the examination. The good news is that if you are an experienced adviser, you will no doubt be familiar with some of the legislative content.

However, even if you are experienced in financial services, you should not be complacent or underestimate the amount of preparation time and effort that need to be applied to pass the Regulatory Exams.

The Preparation Guides are vital as they specify the material of the exams, because they seek to describe what the examination questions will be testing. All examination questions are based upon the material as set out and in addition the Preparation Guides map out exactly where you can find the relevant info in the legislation.

Tackle the book thoroughly, chapter by chapter and make detailed notes as you go.

Every question in the question bank for all the regulatory examinations is based upon the “qualifying criteria” (or the knowledge column) as described. The questions must be connected to these knowledge criteria otherwise it might not be included in the examination as an examination question.

One can not anticipate to be tested on legislation without having actually read the legislation. By checking out the legislation you will get utilized to the meanings, terms and the way in which the legislation is drafted. Reading the legislation will help you to analyze the questions properly.

Board Notice 194 of 2017 (the “Fit and Proper” Board Notice) came into effect on 1 April 2018 and impacted the RE 1 and RE 5 regulatory exams.

The “Fit and Proper” Board Notice contains amended qualifying criteria for these two exams, resulting in amendments to both the exams as well as the study and preparation material.
